The MTC-400 series is equipped with a natural granite base arranged in a “T” configuration. Both slides and the workholding spindle are mounted to a granite base as well. The X-axis, with hydrostatic bearing, is equipped with a workholding spindle with aerostatic bearing, allowing for workpiece-diameters of up to 800 mm (31.5"). As an optional feature, a tool measuring system is integrated into the X-axis. A rotation table with hydrostatic bearing (B-axis) is mounted to the Z-axis, which is also equipped with a hydrostatic bearing.
The B-axis allows for 360° rotation, and includes an optional process camera. The two slide axes of the MTC-400 ultra-precision contouring machine are driven by linear motors, and the rotation axis uses a torque motor.
The 3-axis configuration allows for single point machining. Through the use of diamond tools, surfaces can be achieved with optical quality for a wide range of crystals, non-ferrous metals and polymers.
